The trail starts and finishes at the wharf car park while public transport is available via the Trans-Peak bus and Cromford Train Station which lies approximately 1/4 mile to the north. From the train station, turn right following the road over the river bridge, and you will find the canal wharf on the left.

This is a pleasant countryside loop taking in a good mix of sights and terrains as you make your way along. Starting at the train station in Ambergate, the trail heads through to Crich, before sweeping round to Wakebridge, and finally joining with the Cromford Canal that winds back to the start. Take care along the rougher sections of this trail as well as the busier road sections. Keep an eye.

The station at Cromford was first opened as a temporary passenger halt on the Derby to Manchester line in 1849 while the Midland Railway and the main landowner at the time, Peter Arkwright, tried to resolve a dispute over the final location for Cromford Station.
